Alabama’s unemployment rate in June is 2.6% - the lowest number ever recorded, and the third straight month Alabama has seen a record low.

The May rate was 2.7%, while June 2021′s rate was 3.5%.

June’s rate represents 60,338 unemployed Alabamians, while 2,228,231 people were employed, an increase of more than 5,000 from May. The biggest gains in employment came in the trade, transportation and utilities sector, construction, and manufacturing.

Gov. Kay Ivey said in a statement that “Alabama is working like never before, and the future continues to look brighter for our state and her people.”

The county with the lowest unemployment rate is Shelby County at 2.3%, while the highest rates was 10.1% in Wilcox County.

Trussville had the lowest unemployment rate among major cities, at 2%, while Selma had the highest rate at 8.7%.
