Ultimate Fitness Workout Part 3: Agility and Recovery

Many boxers are known for their smooth or dexterous movements. How do fighters make their feet and movement so "light"? Every fighter has his own secret method to achieve this goal. Two important factors are agility and resilience.

In this series on the road to boxing fitness, we explained how boxing training can bring incredible results to anyone who trains in boxing, whether they step into the ring or not. Floyd Mayweather (Floyd Mayweather) now through his new gym franchise, Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, gives everyone access to the basic elements of boxing exercise.

In our previous post, we discussed the importance of aerobics and strength training for boxing training. Check out these posts Ultimate Fitness Workout Part 1: Cardio and Ultimate Fitness Workout Part 2: Strength, if you missed them. Now we are discussing agility and recovery, because after boxers dance in the air, they need to stand up to help their body recover to maintain muscle health and overall health.

For agility, boxers are often seen skipping multiple rounds at the beginning or end of training. Why do they skip rope? Rope skipping is a great way for boxers to improve their rhythm and strengthen their legs. The speed of the rope allows the fighter to find a pattern in the rope and jump accordingly.

You may see many athletes using the "Agility Ladder" on social media or on TV. It is common in sports such as football, football, and basketball, but it can also be used in boxing. Fighters can use the agility ladder to practice combat-specific movements in a controlled space. The ability to quickly place your feet in the correct area can directly benefit you in the ring or during training. Fast movement allows the fighter to move quickly and efficiently and practice short burst speed. Similar to skipping rope, the agility ladder also helps to develop the rhythm of the fighter.

After all the movements and intensity of boxing training, recovery is essential. In fact, recovery is as important as exercise itself. Without listening and preparing your body, how can you look forward to the next performance?

But what is recovery? This is the process of ensuring that the muscles that have been exercised during training can heal, repair and grow again. This usually starts at the end of the exercise and includes stretching and cooling periods. Recovery can also be passive, in the form of rest and relaxation, while replenishing energy and water for the body. But it can be further supported through positive measures, and there are some scientific foundations behind these measures. For example, the following is a survey on recovery techniques published in a well-known scientific journal: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5932411/

With the advancement of technology and research, new forms of recovery are shown to athletes. When considering recovery, there are many methods, such as ice baths, stretching exercises, massages, and so on. Recovery can help you relax your muscles and make you more agile; however, ice baths are not for everyone, but there are some alternatives. The cryotherapy room is a shorter method of cooling the body than an ice bath. Hot yoga is another way to create mobility and agility during recovery.
