Riddle Vs Brock Lesnar & 9 Other Long-Term Storylines WWE Could Still Pull Off

There are still some long-term storylines that WWE could further construct and execute that fans would love to see pay off!

Long-term storytelling isn’t often something that takes place in WWE, but on the odd occasion that it does, it is usually great. Fans appreciate when history is brought into storylines, as it gives some reward for tuning in over the years and keeping up with the product. For example, something as unique as the Firefly Funhouse Match at WrestleMania 36 captured people’s attention due to its exploration of old storylines.

Right now, there are still some long-term storylines that WWE could further construct and execute. While many storylines won’t have been thought about for a long time, it doesn’t mean that WWE can’t begin to build towards certain things now, or some time down the line, to create compelling TV.

Riddle is someone who has a reputation for not keeping his mouth shut, especially when it comes to interviews. In the past, he has called out the likes of Goldberg and Brock Lesnar, though nothing has ever come of those challenges.

Now that Riddle is a member of the main roster, with the WWE brass clearly seeing something in him, the former MMA fighter could once again call out Brock Lesnar, with several potential storyline avenues, such as Riddle accusing Lesnar of ducking and diving a challenge. A feud between these two would be fun, and they would have years of Riddle’s jibes to build from.

Back in NXT, WWE’s Four Horsewomen wrestled in a brilliant fatal four-way match which propelled the women’s division to new heights. That is the only time WWE’s biggest four female stars battled against one another in a four-way, and it is a money match waiting to happen.

There is so much history between all four women that a fatal four way could easily main event a WrestleMania down the line. If constructed well enough, this could be built to for many months, and there is an endless amount of content from the past to turn into a long-term story.

A feud between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton is inevitable following Rhodes’ recent return to WWE. This is a classic example of a student vs mentor scenario, which usually produces strong storytelling.

Orton was key to elevating Rhodes early on in his career, with them feuding following their Legacy breakup too. With Rhodes now at a high level, overcoming Orton and proving himself to now be a top talent would be a great moment.

WrestleMania 36 should have been a star-making night for Rhea Ripley, but she would come out on the losing side in a match against Charlotte Flair. This set her back a long way, until she finally won the Raw Women’s Title at WrestleMania 37. However, just a couple months later, she fell short to Flair once again.

Though Ripley is currently a heel, a story of her finally overcoming Charlotte Flair sometime down the line is a babyface underdog journey that is waiting to happen.

It seems as though Drew McIntyre may be set to play a huge part in WWE’s Clash at the Castle event in the UK, which feels like the perfect place for him to win a championship in front of a crowd. At WrestleMania 36, when he was the most popular name in the company, his moment was taken away, with the pandemic forcing the WWE to emanate from an empty building.

McIntyre has yet to win a World Title in front of an audience, and if WWE begins to start telling that narrative in the coming weeks, an eventual victory, potentially at the UK PPV, would make a win even bigger. If the plan is to have McIntyre win, then highlighting his need to win in front of the audience is pivotal to making the victory even more meaningful.

The team of Randy Orton and Riddle has been one of the highlights of Raw for over a year now, with the pairing having great chemistry. There will come a point when this team comes to an end, with the likely scenario seeing Riddle come out as a bigger star.

If this is the plan, then WWE should start planting seeds for many months in advance, adding small nuances to character to ensure that a breakup creates as much buzz as possible. This isn’t just like any other WWE tag team break up in recent times, as these two men have been going for quite a while now. A breakup should happen months down the line, making a turn from either man feel like a big deal.

The history between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn is rich and full of depth, and it has been explored now and again in WWE. Going back to their blood feud in NXT, to their partnership on the main roster, to battling at WrestleMania, they have had a lot of interactions. However, it is something that never gets old, and WWE can return to it at any time.

To make this rivalry even better, and to perhaps turn it into something legendary in the company, would be the pair battling over a World Title. This would signal that the two have finally made it to the top, and if built with the right amount of substance and respect, it could be great long-term rivalry over a championship.

It feels as though the time of a Kofi Kingston run at the top has been and gone, but he is someone who will always get fans rallying behind him if pushed, with a natural likeability that not every superstar possesses.

During his WWE Title reign back in 2019, he was made to lose his belt in seconds to Brock Lesnar. If there was ever a clearer redemption story in which a superstar deserves a win, it is this one. A storyline between Kingston and Lesnar, whether it be for a title or not, would have fans clamoring for a Kingston win, and he no doubt deserves a win over The Beast.

At the 2022 Royal Rumble, Reigns and Rollins faced off in a match that was all about mind games, with Rollins taunting his former partner over the fact that he couldn’t ever beat him in big matches. Their history in The Shield speaks for itself, but a full-blown singles feud between the two has yet to happen in WWE.

The company need to capitalise on the huge amount of history that exists between the pair in order to create a feud that could last over several PPVs and become hugely personal. This is one of the few pairings of current stars that could live up to the great feuds of the past.

Roman Reigns’ feud and subsequent partnership with Jey Uso was one of the best stories in WWE over the last five years, with The Bloodline becoming a great faction jam-packed with nuance and constant intrigue.

Whether Reigns brings in the likes of Solo Sikoa to expand the group or not, the fall of The Bloodline could be sensational. Reigns losing his titles, losing The Usos, before an eventual showdown with The Rock, is something which could produce brilliant TV, full of family conflict. The collapse of Reigns’ control would be the culmination of a two-year plus story since his heel turn back in 2020.
